<p><strong>Solving the murder of Phra Supoj: back to the drawing board? </strong>This is the third of a four-part series on the murder of Phra Supoj Suwajo, of Suan Metta Dharm forest monastery in Chiang Mai&#39;s Fang district in June 2005.</p>

<p><span>Chiang Mai</span><span>, Oct 4. Lanna Action for Burma (LAB) comprising NGOs, human rights activists and Burmese students in Chiang Mai, gathered in front of the Chinese Consulate demanding that the government of China stop providing assistance and investment in Burma. </span></p>
<p>To show spiritual solidarity and call for peaceful transformation in Burma, individuals and a dozen organizations in Chiang Mai, Siam, have formed the "<em>Interfaith Group for Peace in Burma</em>". Initially, a week-long event has been planned to educate the public, both Thai and international, concerning the conflict and the fight for freedom and democracy in Burma. </p>
<p><span style="font-size: 9pt">The Open Society Institute condemns the Burmese military&#39;s use of deadly force against unarmed and peaceful demonstrators, and calls on the international community to intervene.</span></p>

<p><span>The junta-installed National Legislative Assembly</span><span> (NLA) voted 156 to 1 with 3 abstentions to remove National Human Rights Commissioner Jaran Ditta-apichai for his leading role in the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) which clashed with police during their protest in front of the residence of Privy Council chairman Gen Prem Tinsulanonda on July 22. Jaran tendered his resignation on the following day.</span></p>
