Having spent Saturday night in Naypyitaw, the Secretary-General's Special Advisor, Under Secretary-General Ibrahim Gambari, was received on Sunday in the new capital by Acting Prime Minister and Secretary 1, Lieutenant-General Thein Sein, Minister for Information, Brigadier General Kyaw San, Minister for Culture, Major General Khin Aung Myint and Deputy Foreign Minister U Kyaw Thu. He conveyed a message from the Secretary-General.
In Yangon , later Sunday afternoon, Mr. Gambari met for over an hour with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. He also consulted with the United Nations Country Team and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
He looks forward to meeting Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council, before the conclusion of his mission.
