<p>On 10 August, the Ratchadaphisek Civil Court ordered the police to exercise care in the control and dispersal of protests by taking into consideration the safety of the media.</p>

<p>Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has withdrawn the 29th order under the Emergency Decree that banned the distribution of information causing fear or public disorder regardless of its veracity. &nbsp;This follows a Civil Court ruling to suspend the order on the grounds that it was unconstitutional and exceeded the powers of the government.</p>

<p>The Criminal Court has revoked bail for activist Parit &ldquo;Penguin&rdquo; Chiwarak on charges relating to the 19 September 2020 protest, while the Thanyaburi Provincial Court denied him and 8 other activists bail on charges relating to the 2 August 2021 protest.</p>

<p>Nine activists have been arrested on charges relating to a protest in front of the Border Patrol Police Region 1 headquarters on 2 August 2021 to demand the release of <a href="https://prachatai.com/english/node/9377">32 detained activists</a>.</p>

<p>On 6 August, the Civil Court ordered the suspension of the 29th order under the Emergency Decree, which bans the distribution of information causing public fear or misinformation by cutting off access to the internet.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A protest on Saturday (7 August) against the government&rsquo;s mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic was met with water cannon trucks and crowd control police armed with rubber bullets and tear gas, despite the target location being switched.</p>

<p>Two reporters have filed a lawsuit against the Royal Thai Police, after they were <a href="https://prachatai.com/english/node/9348">injured with rubber bullets</a> while covering the 18 July 2021 protest.&nbsp;</p>

<p><a href="https://prachatai.com/english/node/9344">Prasong Khotsongkhram</a>, who was arrested on 8 July and detained on royal defamation charges, has been granted bail after spending 27 days in prison.</p>

<p>A year after the <a href="https://prachatai.com/english/node/8696">Harry Potter-themed protest at the Democracy Monument</a>, which was the first protest in 2020 to address issues of the monarchy, people gathered in front of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) to once again call for monarchy reform.</p>

<p>Protesters were arrested at the Narcotics Suppression Bureau on 2 August after they took back a truck seized by the police. The court set 100,000 baht bail for each protester and disallowed the use of the MPs&rsquo; positions as security, saying that it was irrelevant to the case.</p>
