Prosecutors in Isan in Thailand’s Northeast, have postponed an indictment of a lese majeste case involving a well known anti-establishment redshirt figure, Sombat Boonngamanong, aka. Nuling. On Wednesday, 26 August 2015, the prosecutor’s office of the northeastern province of Roi-Et, postponed the indictment of Sombat Boonngamanong, the leader of Red Sunday,  red shirt. Sombat is accused of offenses under Article 112 of the Criminal Crime Code, the lese majeste law, and Article 14 of the Computer Crime Code, which forbids importing illegal online contents.

Military personnel visited the office f an anti-establishment social-political journal, asking the editor his opinions towards the Thai junta.   Five officers from the 5th Anti-aircraft Infantry at 1:45 pm on Tuesday, 25 August 2015, came to the office of Same Sky Journal (Fah Diew Kan in Thai). The officers said that they came to introduce themselves to people working at the publication because they have taken over the responsibility to do so in place of those who used to be in charge of the same task.

The people of Thailand’s northeast, or Isan, continue to suffer from the Thai junta’s forest protection policies despite the authorities’ confirmation that there would be no evictions from protected areas for the time being.

Gen Prayuth Chan-o-cha on Tuesday afternoon expressed condolences for the losses from Tuesday’s evening bomb at a popular shrine in Bangkok’s shopping district, while stressing the junta’s control over the security situation in Bangkok. Meanwhile, another bomb went off at a busy pier in Bangkok with no casualties.    “Whenever the people are hurt, I am hurt even more,” the prime minister and leader of National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) said on Tuesday 18 August 2015.

[Update]: At 12am on Sunday, 16 August 2015, the police officers at Pathumwan Police Station released, Songtham Kaewpanpruk, aka. Dave, one of the members of the 14 anti-junta activists, without conditions after he was held under custody from 2am-12am.    The Thai police arrested one of the well known 14 anti-junta activists after returning from overseas.

Thai education has been thrown into tumult by new regulations governing the siting of schools, colleges and universities. A ministerial order from the Prime Minister’s Office will ban any establishment from offering formal tertiary educational services within 300 metres from a military facility.  But this order, based on the Critical Thinking Prohibition Act, has not yet been published in the Royal Gazette and enforcement will not start until 30 days after that.

The Thai Administrative Court has dismissed a sedition complaint filed against the Thai junta for issuing an order to prohibit certain people from traveling overseas. According to Post Today News, the Central Administrative Court on Monday, 3 August 2015, dismissed a complaint that Watana Muangsook, a former Minister of Commerce of the Pheu Thai Party, recently filed against the junta’s National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO). Watana filed the complaint against the NCPO for issuing an order which prohibited him from travelling to Singapore as planned on 15 July 2015.

The Thai military officers in Isan, northeastern Thailand, summoned a student filmmaker for talks because the student did not asked for permissions to film a documentary in a restricted area with protracted mining conflict. On 24 July 2015, the military officers of the northeastern Maha Sarakham Province summoned Pariwat Kampeera, a 21 years-old student of Maha Sarakham University for a discussion over a documentary he had filmed for a TV program called ‘Thi Nee Ban Rao’ (This is my home) of Thai Public Broadcasting Service (Thai PBS).

An expert on civil and political rights who serves as an advisor to Thailand’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has resigned, saying that most of the candidates for commissioner are not qualified. Yatsipha Suksai, an expert on the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and an advisor to the NHRC submitted a resignation letter to the human rights agency on 23 July 2015.

An elderly bombing suspect has urged the police to reinvestigate his alleged brutal torture by military officers while he was detained under martial law. Sansern Sriounruen, a 63 years-old suspect in a case related to explosions at the Bangkok Criminal Court and Siam Square, and planned explosive attacks in other locations in Bangkok in early March 2015, plans to submit a letter tomorrow, 21 July 2015, to request the Royal Thai Police to investigate his allegations of torture.

An independent Thai human rights researcher has pointed out that the Thai junta’s order to halt the selection of candidates to an independent law reform agency cuts off ways for people to participate in national reform.

Thai Administrative Court ruled that an order from the Thai broadcasting authority to shut down a TV station affiliated with a red-shirt group was unlawful. According to Matichon Online, on Thursday, 16 July 2015, the Administrative Court in Bangkok issued an injunction to allow Peace TV, a TV station affiliated with the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), an anti-establishment red-shirt group, to continue broadcasting.
