<p>Activists and people affected by the royal defamation law, or Section 112 of the Thai Criminal Code, went to parliament yesterday (27 October) to submit a petition to the House Committee on Legal Affairs, Justice, and Human Rights for the repeal of Section 112.</p>

<p>Two Burapha University students have been charged with royal defamation for hanging a banner containing a message about the monarchy from their dorm room balcony.</p>

<p>Student activist Benja Apan has been denied bail for a third time yesterday (21 October), after she was arrested on 7 October 2021 on a lèse majesté charge in connection with&nbsp;<a href="https://prachatai.com/english/node/9393">the 10 August 2021 protest</a>.</p>

<p>Student activist Patsaravalee Tanakitvibulpon has been indicted on a royal defamation charge related to a speech she gave at a protest on 24 March 2021, in which she said that the monarchy must reform itself in order to survive.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Activist and human rights lawyer Anon Nampa have been denied bail after he was arrested on a royal defamation charge due to his speech at the <a href="https://prachatai.com/english/node/9383">second Harry Potter protest</a> on 3 August 2021 at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC).</p>

<p><a href="https://prachatai.com/english/node/9344">Prasong Khotsongkhram</a>, who was arrested on 8 July and detained on royal defamation charges, has been granted bail after spending 27 days in prison.</p>

<p>The public prosecutor decided today (22 July) to indict 13 protesters facing lèse majesté and sedition charges for their involvement in the 26 October 2020 protest in front of the German Embassy in Bangkok.</p>

<p>Prasong Khotsongkhram, 26, has been denied bail for the third time after being charged with royal defamation for three Facebook posts made in May and June 2021.</p>

<p>The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) FIDH and Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR) have petitioned the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention for the release of 65-year-old Anchan Preelerd, who is currently serving the longest prison sentence ever imposed in a&nbsp;lèse majesté case and is current held at&nbsp;the Central Women&rsquo;s Correctional Institution in Bangkok.</p>
