On 11 April, prosecutors indicted Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, leader of the Progressive Movement, over his video statement in January 2021 addressing the government’s Covid-19 vaccination programme that relied heavily on Siam Bioscience, a private company in which, according to Reuters, King Rama X holds all but 2 of the 48 million shares.

A spokesperson for the Office of the Attorney General said yesterday (22 April) that a criminal charge against Thanathorn Juangrungruangkit will be dropped. The former leader of the dissolved Future Forward Party was accused of running in the 2019 general election despite already knowing that he held shares in the V-luck Media company in violation of electoral law.

The United States, European Union, United Kingdom, Japan, and other governments should call on the Thai authorities to drop the charges and the arbitrary ban on the Future Forward Party.

The Constitutional Court of Thailand ruled to dissolve the Future Forward Party on the grounds that the party has broken Article 72 of the 2017 Organic Law on Political Parties by taking a loan from its leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit. The Court also banned its leaders for ten years.
