<p>A top official of the UN refugee agency responsible for protection has called for more concerted support to resolve the plight of displaced people in Myanmar and those with undetermined citizenship.</p> <p>UNHCR's Assistant High Commissioner for Protection, Volker Türk, made his remarks at the end of a five-day mission to Myanmar on Monday during which he visited Yangon and the capital Nay Pyi Taw, as well as Sittwe and Maungdaw in Rakhine state.</p>

<p>Muslim people in Thailand have condemned the Thai junta government for deporting Uighur refugees to China, pointing out that it is a violation of international law.</p> <p>On Friday, 10 July 2015, a group of Muslim people in Thailand issued a statement condemning the Thai junta’s forced deportation of Uighurs, a Turkic Muslim minority from western China, back to their supposed country of origin.</p> <p>The statement was signed by Zakariya Amataya, a well-known Muslim poet in Thailand and Ekkarin Tuansiri, a political science lecturer at Prince of Songkhla University.</p>

<p>International pressure is building on Bangladesh and Myanmar to take urgent measures to save boatloads of stranded asylum seekers in danger of death by drowning or starvation in the Bay of Bengal.&nbsp; The ramshackle boats, thought to be loaded with Riphab refugees from Thailand, are organized by people smugglers, who prey on the migrants, often selling them into virtual slavery if they manage to make landfall undetected.&nbsp;</p>

<p>(BANGKOK)—Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia should immediately coordinate search and rescue operations for Rohingya asylum seekers and possible survivors of trafficking from Myanmar and Bangladesh who are stranded at sea,&nbsp;<a href="http://www.fortifyrights.org/">Fortify Rights</a>&nbsp;said today. The governments of these three countries should open their borders to asylum seekers and provide survivors with access to asylum procedures, protection from detention and forced returns, and freedom of movement.</p>

<p>Forced Return of Kachin to Burma Violates International Law</p> <p>(Bangkok, September 6, 2012) – In late August 2012, the Chinese government forcibly returned at least 4,000 ethnic Kachin refugees to a conflict zone in northern Burma in violation of international law, Human Rights Watch said in a letter to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.</p>

<p>On December 27, 2011 the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network sent an open letter to the Prime Minister of Thailand, Yingluck Shinawatra on the deportation of a Hmong refugee and his family for the second time. In the letter, the group strongly urges the Thai government to reconsider its ill advised action and review its policy and procedure on refugees seeking asylum in Thailand, and calls on the Thai government to ensure that Ka Yang is not persecuted by the Lao PDR government and is released and permitted full freedom of movement. </p>

<p>On a small island, out of sight and out of mind, some 2,600 kilometres northwest of the Australian coast, thousands of refugees have been held behind barbed wire in a high-security detention centre while their asylum applications are being processed. </p>

<p>A group of 85 persons have been in detention in Bangkok since December 14, 2010 despite the fact that they are already registered as asylum seekers with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bangkok. Of the 85 persons, 17 of them have reportedly had their applications accepted and have been granted refugee status. The group includes 38 women and girls, among whom there is at least one pregnant woman. It also includes at least 38 children, including 26 aged under 10 years. There is also a number of babies and elderly one of whom is 60 and is suffering high blood pressure and another person with a heart condition. </p>

<p>The Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network (APRRN) has sent a letter to the Secretariat of Prime Minister, with a demand to meet with the Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, to discuss the APRRN&rsquo;s clear concern for the continuing denial of human rights to asylum seekers and refugees, as set out in APRRN&rsquo;s Statement of Concern dated 20 December 2010 regarding the arrest and indefinite detention of Pakistani asylum seekers and refugees in Bangkok</p>
