 Burma’s government should publicly condemn grossly discriminatory remarks by a regional official about gay men and transgender women, Human Rights Watch said today in a letter to senior Burmese officials. The Burmese government is obligated under international law to protect all people in the country regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Thailand might be viewed as one of the most open-minded countries in Southeast Asia when it comes to LGBT. However, the country’s laws still put LGBT people at the margin.    On 14 July 2015, a network of academics and LGBT activists from the Transgender Alliance-Thai (TGA) organised a public seminar at Thammasat University, Tha Prachan Campus, called ‘Gender Recognition Advocacy for Transgender in Thailand (T-GART)’ in order to gather opinions about ways to push for legal recognition of LGBT people in the country.

In one of Thailand’s men’s prison, the homosexuals are categorized as transgenders with breasts, attractive transgenders, older transgender, gay and transexuals. They are entitled to different “class” and treatment. A former inmate wrote the article in detention.

The military officers in northern Thailand have threatened to force the cancellation of a discussion about LGBT if it touches on political issues.     According to Prachatham News, military officers from 33rd Army Division of the northern province of Chiang Mai at 12:30 pm on Saturday, 4 July 2015, came to inspect an event called ‘Gender & LGBTIQs in Modern Society’ at the Cultural Exhibition Hall of Chiang Mai University.

Thai lawmakers have scrapped an opportunity of marriage equality for all SOGIEs (sexual orientations and gender identifications and expressions) in Thailand in the draft constitution, saying that the nation is not ready. According to the Foundation for SOGI Rights and Justice (FOR SOGI), the Constitutional Drafting Committee (CDC) reached a consensus on 26 June 2015 to remove the phrase “rights to marriage” from Article 38 in Section 2, the section on citizens’ and human rights of the draft constitution.

A famous university in Bangkok has decided to fire a transgender lecturer, saying that she behaved inappropriately in the media. Kath Khangpiboon, 28, a transgender lecturer of the Faculty of Social Administration of Thammasat University, the second oldest university in Thailand, on Tuesday night posted on her Facebook profile that the university’s administrative committee decided to fire her after she had been teaching for about 10 months.
