On 27 March 2018, the ICJ, Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR) and the Cross Cultural Foundation (CrCF) made a joint supplementary submission to the UN Human Rights Committee on Thailand’s implementation of its human rights obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).

Ms. Rahaf Mohammed Alqunun, a Saudi national, has fled from her family due to her being forced into marriage and being subject to egregious physical and mental abuse. En route to her asylum in Australia, she has made a stop at the Suvarnabhumi Airport. While awaiting a connecting flight, someone who claimed to have come from the embassy of Saudi Arabia in Thailand with another individual who claimed to have come from the Kuwait Airlines, have approached her and held her in custody in a room at the Miracle Transit Hotel inside the Suvarnabhumi Airport.

A radical Thai Buddhist monk known for his anti-Muslim rhetoric has been forcefully disrobed by the authorities after a brief detention. On 20 September 2017,the Buddhism Protection Centre of Thailand reported on its Facebook page that security officers on 19 September detained Venerable Aphichat Promjan at a temple in southern Songkhla Province and reportedly took him to the Crime Suppression Division of the Royal Thai Police in Bangkok for interrogation.

Doctors who examined the body of a soldier who allegedly died from ill-treatment during military training testified that he was left drowning for at least five minutes. After a legal battle lasting almost 8 years, a torture victim wrongfully arrested for theft has lodged a civil lawsuit against the Thai police. Rittirong Chuenjit, 26, on 26 May 2017 filed suit against the Royal Thai Police at the Southern Bangkok Civil Court.
