<p>People from various Songkhla fishing communities are demanding the authorities to halt a series of public hearings of a mega project that would turn over 16,000 rai of seaside land into an industrial zone. Meanwhile, Kaireeya Ramanyah, a young human right defenders and the Chana Rak Thin Network's youth representative, has been sitting in front of the Songkhla provincial hall since yesterday morning (12 May) and said that she will not leave until they get answers. </p>

<p>After the Forest Industry Organization (FIO) filed a lawsuit against villagers in Bo Kaew, Chaiyaphum, in 2009, the Supreme Court has ordered that the 31 villagers must move off their land before 27 August.</p>
<div>An appeal court has refused to try the assassination case of a community rights defender killed earlier this year, ruling that the witnesses are unreliable despite being present at the crime scene.</div>

<div>On 1 December 2016, the Surat Thani Appeal Court dismissed the assassination case of <a href="http://www.prachatai.com/english/node/4780">Chai Bunthonglek, a land rights activist who was killed in February this year</a>, reported the Human Rights Lawyers Association.

<p>A network of people from marginalised communities countrywide has urged the military government to halt plans to establish Special Economic Zones (SEZs), claiming that the plans violate the rights of the poor.</p>
<p>A network of seven organisations from different regions including the Love Mae Sod Group, the Sa Kaew Environmental Protection Network, the Northern Development Foundation, the Citizen Council of Chonburi Province, and the Community Leaders Network on Monday, 30 November 2015, submitted a petition addressed to Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, the junta leader and Prime Minister.</p>

The Chiang Mai military has been especially paranoid and sensitive about t-shirts. In the latest incident, the Chiang Mai military attempted to force northern land rights activists not to wear the group’s campaign t-shirts when meeting a minister.
