Historian Charnvit Kasetsiri, former Rector of Thammasat University, has reported being harassed by a group of men, possibly plainclothes police, who visited him at his condominium building, claiming that he was backing student protests.

CCTV footage showing the men in the elevator and the truck they arrived in

Charnvit said that last Tuesday (22 March), a group of four men with cropped hair, whose appearance resembled plainclothes policemen, arrived at his condominium building in a pickup truck with a concealed license plate. Two of the men told the building staff that they were going to see him and took the elevator up to his apartment.

However, Charnvit was not home at the time, and the men left after taking photos of the number of the apartment door. He said that he found out about them when the building staff called him, so he went to watch the CCTV footage which recorded the incident. The building staff also told him that the men said they were tracking down supporters of the pro-democracy protests.

He said that this is the first time that he has been harassed in this manner and is consulting legal experts as to whether he should take any action. He speculated that he was being harassed because he was opposed to the military government and has been involved with the pro-democracy protests. He has also bailed out several activists and joined the Stand Against Detention protests to demand the release of detained activists.
