With the constitutional amendment referendum set for 8 February, Thai voters now have three days to register to vote out of their constituency or overseas. Advance voting is not available for the referendum.
In an official announcement from the Office of the Prime Minister, the referendum will be conducted on 8 February, the same day as the upcoming general election. Voters will be asked whether they agree that there should be a new Constitution.
Overseas and out-of-constituency voters have from now until Monday (5 January) to register to vote. Overseas and advance voting registration for the referendum is separate from registration for voting in the general election., Voters who have already registered to vote in the election from overseas or outside home constituencies must register again if they want to vote in the referendum.
Advance and overseas voting registration for the general election will also close on Monday (5 January). Those choosing to vote early for the general election will have to go to the poll on 1 February. Advance voters must vote out of their home constituency.
While voters are allowed to vote early in the general election, advance voting is not available for the referendum. Anyone choosing to vote early in the general election will still have to go to the polls on 8 February if they wish to vote in the referendum.
Overseas voters will be going to the polls at the same time in late January for both the general election and the referendum. The exact date and time depends on the Thai Embassy in each country. Overseas voters choosing to vote by mail will receive all three ballots (for constituency MPs, for party-list MPs and for the referendum) at the same time and must send them back to their local embassy or consulate before the deadline.
