On Saturday (13 December), while activists are staging their weekly protest to demand release of political prisoners, protesters joined holding banners calling for an end to armed conflict along the Thailand-Cambodia border.
The ‘Stand Against Tyranny’ protest is held every Saturday at Tha Phae gate, a popular tourist landmark in Chiang Mai’s old town. For the past 151 weeks, activists stood along the footpath with signs calling for the release of political prisoners, especially those detained for royal defamation.
On Saturday (13 December), they are joined by anti-war protesters holding banners demanding an end to the border conflict and for the Thai and Cambodian governments to return to the negotiating table.
