Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has pledged to support the Marriage Equality Bill, which will be sent to the Cabinet next week, and Thailand’s bid to host World Pride 2028.

<p>The Drafting Committee for the Civil Partnership bill and the Marriage Equality bill has said that it will push for both bills to go before parliament before the end of the current session, while concerns have been raised about homophobia among committee members.</p>

<p>The Thai parliament voted yesterday (9 February 2022) to forward the marriage equality bill, proposed by Move Forward Party (MFP), to the Cabinet for consideration, delaying the bill&rsquo;s first reading.</p>

<p>On 22 August, parliament voted not to support a proposal to set up a separate Standing Committee on LGBT rights. Instead, LGBT rights will be subsumed under the Standing Committee on children, young people, women, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and ethnic groups.</p>

<p>Amidst the storm of legal prosecutions against its party leaders, the Future Forward Party (FFP) has gained a small victory after its transgender MPs were allowed to dress according to their gender identity to the opening of parliament.</p>
