As everyone has seen, Today is a day that our friends have been arrested by undercover authorities. 14 men and women. 14 men and women who stand fight with a horror of injustice and tyranny. One year ago, this tyranny has taken our freedoms away by stole our rights with guns, violence, censorship and civil unrest.

The Thai Military Court detained 14 embattled students activists accused of violating the Thai junta’s political assembly ban amid a crowd who came to give moral support to the students.   At 00:20 am on Saturday, the Bangkok Military Court granted custody permission to detain 14 student activists who are accused of violating the junta’s National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Order No. 7/2014, which prohibits any political gathering of more than five persons for holding symbolic events to commemorate the 2014 coup d’état on 22 May.

In the second of the series, Prachatai talks to Sirawit Serithiwat (Ja New), a student activist from Thammasat University. In early February 2015, Sirawit was one of the four activists charged with violating the junta’s Order 7/2014, which prohibits a political public gathering of more than five persons. If found guilty, Sirawit could face up to a year in jail and a 20,000 baht fine. He is also reportedly being constantly followed by security officers. Despite the legal harassment and intimidation by the Thai authorities, Sirawit chooses to continue his political activities for democracy.

In November 2014, a transgender student activist was arrested and briefly detained for flashing a three-fingered salute at the ‘Hunger Games 3’ movie premiere in central Bangkok as a symbolic protest against the junta. Since then, she has become one of the best-known figures in the political movement against the junta. Prachatai talked to her about why she chose to stand against the regime despite all the risks that this entailed.

In a bid to stop the political activities of student activists, military officers have intimidated 17 student activists by paying visits to their homes, dorms, and parent’s homes. The Thai Student Centre for Democracy (TSCD), a student activist group, on Wednesday revealed on the group’s Facebook page that since 19 March, 17 student activists have been intimidated by military officers who came to visit their homes.

The military court refused to detain the four anti-junta activists charged with violating junta’s public gathering ban after the police filed charges against them. The Bangkok’s Military Court at 6.30pm on Monday denied the custody request submitted by the military prosecutor against the four anti-junta activists, reasoning that the four came to report to the police and there is no flight risk.

The military sent police officers to interrogate a university lecturer suspected of hanging an anti-junta banner. Two police officers came to Mahasarakham University in the northeastern province of Maha Sarakham at around 5 pm on Thursday to interrogate Vinai Poncharoen, a lecturer at the Political Science Faculty of the university, at his office after he posted a picture of an anti-junta banner with the message “Down with dictatorship, democracy will triumph” on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

Anti-coup student activist, who in November was arrested for flashing the anti-coup three-fingered salute at the Hunger Game 3 premiere, was threatened with rape by what are thought to be plainclothes military officers assigned to follow and watch her.

  Update: Police at Prathumwan Police Station fined the two student activists from Chulalongkorn University -- Nattisa Pattamapornpong, from Faculty of Education, and Thapakorn Kaewlangka, from Faculty of Engineering, 1,000 baht each for violating Article 10 of the Cleanliness and Order Act.   After police last week charged and fined three anti-coup student activists with littering after they held a commemoration of the 2006 coup, two more student activists have been summoned to hear charges related to the event.
