Two activists have been denied bail after they were arrested on several charges, including sedition, for allegedly honking at and blocking a royal motorcade.

Activist Katanyu Muenkhamruang has been sentenced to 2 years in prison on a sedition charge for Facebook posts calling for people to go to protests in August 2021. She was later released on bail to file for appeal.

A student from Chiang Mai University has been charged with sedition and other crimes under the Computer Crimes Act and the Public Assembly Act over a 24 June 2023 caravan. Several others have also been charged, including a local news outlet.

12 activists and protesters have been found guilty of sedition, among other charges, for participating in the 18 July 2020 Free Youth protest and given a suspended sentence of 2 months in prison and a fine of 2000 baht each.

Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, former Secretary-General of the now-dissolved Future Forward Party, has been accused of sedition in relation to a discussion in the Clubhouse application over the burning of a royal portrait. 

<p>Activists Tantawan Tuatulanon and Orawan Phuphong, who are undergoing a hunger strike to demand the release of political prisoners and judicial reform, will continue their hunger strike until every political prisoner is released, said their lawyer during a press conference on Saturday (4 February).</p>

<p>On Monday (7 November), the Criminal Court dismissed a sedition charge filed against 8 people linked to a Facebook page mocking NCPO leaders on the grounds that they were merely exercising their democratic rights and freedoms.</p>

<p>On 4 October, Lampang Provincial Court found Tiwagorn Withiton guilty of sedition for inviting netizens to cast votes in a campaign asking whether the Thai people wanted to have a referendum about having a monarch as head of the state.</p>

<p>For the past 9 months, the Criminal Court has been refusing to issue summonses for documents requested by lawyers representing activists charged with royal defamation for the 19 September 2020 protest to be used as evidence, delaying the witness examination process.</p>

<p>A Thammasat University student was arrested on Tuesday&nbsp;(6 September) for sedition on a warrant issued in 2020 relating to a 10 August 2020 protest.</p>

<p>A student at Prince of Songkla University&rsquo;s Hat Yai campus has been arrested on a royal defamation charge while receiving a Covid-19 vaccine at the university&rsquo;s vaccination centre.</p>
