Thailand’s military courts have handled more than 1,400 cases involving more than 1,600 civilian defendants. The most pressing problem has been the overuse of pre-trial detention against those accused of lèse majesté or criminal possession of war weapons, which simply turned them into “forgotten prisoners.”  If they decide to fight the charges, these civilians would face almost indefinite detention – both because of the seriousness of the charges against them and the Court’s own slow procedures.

The defence lawyer for a factory worker accused of lèse majesté for mocking the King’s dog requested the military prosecutors not to indict the suspect, saying that the lèse majesté law does not cover the King’s dog and the charge was politically motivated.   Anon Nampa, a well know human rights lawyer, on Monday, 29 February 2016, submitted a letter to the military Judge Advocate General’s Office, calling for justice for Thanakorn S., a 27-year-old factory worker.

The Military Court has again denied bail to a lèse majesté suspect accused of mocking the King’s dog while the suspect’s defence lawyer maintains that the case does not fall under the lèse majesté law.     Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR), reported that the Bangkok Military Court on Thursday, 11 February 2016, denied bail to Thanakorn S., suspected of offences under Article 112 of the Criminal Code, the lèse majesté law.

The Thai military court has issued arrest warrants for six young anti-junta activists calling for an investigation into the corruption allegations surrounding the construction of Rajabhakti Park. According to the Daily News, the Military Court of Bangkok on Wednesday, 13 January 2016, issued arrest warrants for Sirawit Serithiwat, 23, Chonticha Jaeng-rew, 22, Chanoknan Ruamsap, 22, Abhisit Sapnaphapan, 29, Korakoch Saengyenpan, 23, and Thanet Anantawong, 25.
