A lawsuit has been filed in response to the decision of a Chulalongkorn University (CU) executive to not reimburse the cost of producing a student magazine commemorating the life and work of Jit Phumisak, a renowned left-wing intellectual and former CU alumni.

Note: Jit Phumisak (25 September 1930 – 5 May 1966) was one of the foremost Thai Marxism thinkers of the twentieth century. His most well-known work, The Real Face of Thai Feudalism, was published while he was still a student in the Faculty of Arts at Chulalongkorn University in 1957. The Real Face, which was later translated into English by Craig Reynolds, offered an analysis of feudalism and its remnants in Thai society, politics, and law. The volume was swiftly banned and he was arrested later that year and accused of being a communist.

Eight student activists, including a student who was arrested for giving the anti-coup three-fingered salute at the Hunger Games 3 premiere last week, were arrested after they distributed anti-coup leaflets at Thammasat University, Tha Prachan campus. Most of the students are from the League of Liberal Thammasat for Democracy. Natchacha Kongudom, a Bangkok University student who was arrested on Thursday, also joined them. At press time, the police had taken them to police stations.
