<p>During the Covid-19 pandemic, Thai monks are returning the favor to the communities&nbsp;around their temples by setting up food donation spots, a concept which has also moved online. Mutita Chuachang investigates.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A seawall construction project is in its first phase at Muang Ngam beach in Songkhla Province. The authorities and some local people disagree over the necessity and legitimacy of the project, but it seems that an amendment to the law on Environment Impact Assessments (EIAs) has played an important role in provoking the confrontation.</p>

<p>This report will explore the roots of the influence of Chinese concepts of development found in the ECC: the role of the Thai elite (specifically Somkid Jatusripitak), the big picture of economic and political changes in Thailand and China, and the history of modern Sino-Thai interdependence.</p>

<p>The war against the communists ended long ago over but the facts about the violence of the time are still not clear. We do not know the exact number of lives lost, particularly of villagers living in remote areas. Even the losses that happened in the middle of the city such as the events of Oct 14, Oct 6, May 1992, and May 2010, still remain obscure and the facts have not been proven.</p><p>There has been no punishment for those responsible for these events, so it is hard for Thai society to learn lessons in order to prevent violence in the future.</p>

<p><em>Conflicts between stakeholders and local communities adversely affected by large-scale development projects are long-standing, and the communities always lose the battle. The National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights, which will provide measures for businesses and governments to prevent and remedy adverse impacts on the environment and the community.</em></p>
