<p>Reliable reports that independent journalist and former prisoner of conscience Truong Duy Nhat is being detained in Viet Nam raise major questions about his safety and the circumstances of his disappearance in Thailand in late January, Amnesty International said on 25 March.&nbsp;</p>

<p dir="ltr">Today, the ICJ and Amnesty International submitted recommendations to the Ministry of Justice that changes be made to a new law under consideration by the Cabinet, in order to bring it in line with Thailand’s international legal obligations.</p> <p dir="ltr">The submission came in response to a request by the Ministry for feedback on the Draft Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearances Act (‘Draft Act’).</p>

<p>Chinese activist Dong Guangping will be tried in April 2017 for “subverting state power” and “crossing the national border illegally”. Detained since his forcible return to China in November 2015, he has had no access to his family or a lawyer of his choice and is at risk of an unfair trial.&nbsp;</p> <p></p>
