The Office for Human Rights Studies and Social Development (OHRSD) at Mahidol University in cooperation with the Asia-Europe Foundation and Southeast Asian Studies Program, Thammasat University are pleased to invite you to a lecture on the topic "Perspectives on Freedom of Expression in Asia and Europe," given by Professor Kevin Boyle from the Human Rights Center at the University of Essex, and Professor Cherian George from the School of Communication & Information at Nanyang Technological University, as part of the Asia-Europe lecture tour sponsored by ASEF.

The lecture addresses the key challenges facing the effective implementation of the "right to freedom of expression" in the region.  Norms relating to the freedom of expression and its permissible limitations, as well as its relations to other rights as well as democracy and rule of law shall be discussed with a special focus on challenges to freedom of expression, particularly with regard to the media, including the Internet and emerging actors (such as bloggers and "netizens").

Please join us for this thought provoking lecture on 6 November 2008 from 13:30 – 16:00 at the Faculty of Liberal Arts' Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Thammasat University.
