The Thai police have arrested 42 people at checkpoints for the royal cremation.  

On 31 October 2017, deputy police chief Gen Srivara Ransibrahmanakul revealed that 42 people were arrested at checkpoints screening the participants at the funeral of the late King Bhumibol, which took place on 26 October, according to Khaosod Online.

He said the 42 had been accused of criminal offenses and had outstanding arrest warrants. But he refused to reveal details about the charges against those arrested.

The police have already sent the 42 cases to the prosecutor, added Srivara.

Before the royal cremation, Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, said on 2 October “Intelligence found that there are groups of people inside and outside the country who are preparing to create chaos during the royal funeral.”

Gen Chalermchai Sitthisat, Chief of the Royal Thai Army, added “These groups of people are fugitives of Article 112 [of the Criminal Code, the lèse majesté law] who are living abroad. They do not dare to come to Thailand, but use social media for their activities.”
