The Thai police have denied a rumour that an individual has been arrested for threatening to assassinate deputy junta head Gen Prawit Wongsuwan.

On 3 February 2017, Pol Col Kritsana Pattanacharoen, Deputy Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police (RTP), denied rumours about an arrest concerning a threat to kill Prawit, deputy junta head and Defence Minister.

He told the media it was only a rumour and that the police and the military have been cooperating closely on the matter.

It is up to the Defence Minister if he would like to have more security personnel or not, added the RTP spokesperson.

On 2 February, Prawit told the media that a threat to kill him had appeared on social media. However, he declined to give details.

On the same day, Channel 8 news reported that soldiers had arrested the owner of a department store for posting the threat to assassinate Prawit.
