Thai military officers detained for an ‘attitude adjustment’ session a political activist who accused the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of cronyism.

Military officers on at 5:13 pm Thursday 15 October 2015 paid a visit to Srisuwan Janya, Secretary-General of the Thai Constitution Protection Association before taking him to the First Army Region Headquarters on Ratchadamnoen Road in central Bangkok.

Matichon Online reported at 6 pm on Thursday that according to a news sources in the First Army Region the political activist was taken to the military barracks for a discussion in order to ‘create more understanding’ between him and the junta’s National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

The military source said that the discussion would be brief and that Srisuwan would not be held overnight, Matichon reported.

Earlier on Tuesday, Srisuwan submitted a petition to the Office of the Ombudsman of Thailand, asking for an investigation of the conduct of Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, the junta leader and Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam for appointing their close relatives and associates to the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA).

Srisuwan alleged that out of the 200 NRSA members appointed by the junta leader on 5 October, 77, or almost 40 per cent, were serving or former military and police officers.

He also accused the Deputy PM of cronyism as Air Vice-Marshal Chalermpol Krea-ngam and Dusit Krea-ngam were also given seats in the NRSA.

The so-called National Reform Steering Assembly is responsible for drafting the blueprints for national reform and giving suggestions and recommendations to the National Legislative Assembly, the Cabinet, the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), and other relevant agencies.

All of its members were appointed by the junta leader.
