Isra news reported on Thursday that according to the Education Reform Network, the junta has approved their proposal to establish a National Education Reform Commission to reform Thailand’s education with the aim of to creating “citizens of good quality” in the future.  
 
The network said that after the consultation meeting at Srinakharinwirot University on “Education Reform and Strategy to Create Morality in Thai society”, the members of the commission include Dean of the Ashram Silpa Institute Assoc. Prof. Prapapat Niyom, Srinakharinwirot University (SWU) as President, Asst. Prof. Dr.Chalermchai Boonyaleepan and President of the Sufficiency Economy Institute Dr. Wiwat Salayakamthorn. 
 
The Ashram Silpa Institute was founded by Dr.Prawase Wasi, a respected intellectual working on national reform. He recently commented at a public forum that the 2014 coup should be regarded as chance for the country to reform. 
 
Assoc. Prof. Prapapat Niyom said the reform plan in the short term is to create new teaching materials and reform education at all levels, while in the long term it is to restructure education management at the Ministry of Education. 
 
He said an independent agency such as the National Education Reform Council may be established in the future for sustainable work on education reform.
