A Spokesperson for the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) said that the arrest of the former Education Minister Chaturon Chaisang will be followed by a trial in the Military Court.

On Tuesday at 2 p.m., Chaturon held a press conference at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand (FCCT) saying that he was prepared to be arrested, and will fight the junta with civil disobedience. Shortly after the press conference, dozens of soldiers stormed the press club and took him away for detention.

Colonel Winthai Suvaree said the speech he made at the foreign press club created the problem and was in violation of the rules for peace and order set forth by the NCOP.

Previously Chaturon was on the army’s summons list, but after the refused to report to the army, the NCPO froze all his financial activities.

Col. Winthai said that Chaturon's refusal to report violates the martial law, so the authorities will bring him to the Military Court for prosection.
