On 2 May, the Internal Security Operations Command held a meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva as Director of ISOC, to discuss activities to mobilize the public to protect the monarchy and national security.

ISOC has set up a security hotline 1374 to promote the public’s knowledge, understanding and awareness of security issues and impacts from various threats, and to seek their cooperation in monitoring and informing the authorities on the threats so that a mass coordination centre in each province can quickly solve problems.

The threats include drugs, illegal migrants, terrorism and transnational crimes, encroachment of forest reserves and natural resources, natural disasters, unrest in the southern border provinces, offences against the monarchy and others as specified by ISOC.

In promoting public awareness of the duties to protect the nation, religion, and monarchy, the agency has, since 1 April 2011, sent 100 teams of resource persons to promote understanding, the protection and worship of the monarchy, and the solution to drug problems in ISOC Regions 1-4.

Since late April 2011, it has cooperated with the army to promote patriotism and loyalty by organizing concerts across the country.

It also uses its community radio network for national security, consisting of 700 stations, to broadcast via the internet three times a day, focusing on the monarchy’s great gifts to the people and promoting patriotism and loyalty.

To promote unity among the people and encourage them to take part in the prevention and resolution of problems which affect national security and social order, ISOC organizes mass-mobilization activities including reorganizing the Thai Volunteers to Protect the Country, training 209 students of Srinakharinwirot University to produce educational materials to promote the appreciation of the royal kindness and loyalty, and organizing free concerts.
