On 19 Mar, during the red shirts’ rally at the Democracy Monument, a CD vendor was arrested and denied the right to consult a lawyer.
At about 8.30 pm, the police arrested Sathian Rattanawong, 50, in front of the Suksapan Panit store near the monument, and took him to Chana Songkram Police Station.
The police accused him of selling CDs with content that was offensive to the monarchy, and confiscated 20 of them.
According to the Rassadornprasong Law Office, the police went to search his room, but found nothing illegal. While he was detained at the police station, the police did not allow anybody to meet him, even his own son.
A lawyer of the Rassadornprasong Law Office said that the police violated the law and the constitution by denying the suspect his right to see a lawyer, and he would take legal action.
