Three leaders of Triumph underwear workers who were laid off in 2009 have been prosecuted for gathering and causing unrest.
On 27 Jan, Jitra Kotchadej, Bunrod Saiwong and Sunthorn Bunyod were charged by the public prosecutor for their protests at Government House and Parliament on 27 Aug 2009.
They were charged with gathering in a group of 10 or more people, causing unrest, and disobeying authorities. A previous charge of blocking traffic was dismissed by the prosecutor as it had expired.
The public prosecutor brought them before the Criminal Court to be remanded.
About 40 former Triumph workers came to give them moral support.
At 4.25 pm, the three defendants were granted bail at 200,000 baht each, with Chulalongkorn lecturer Suda Ranguphan and Phue Thai MP Suchat Lainamngern serving as guarantors.
The court scheduled 28 March for the examination of evidence.
On 27 Aug 2009, about 1,000 , including Triumph workers, held rallies at Government House and Parliament to make their demands. Police dispersed them by making loud noises produced by a Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD).
