Amphon Tangnoppakul has been denied bail yet again by the Appeals Court after he was indicted and sent to Bangkok Remand Prison last week.
Amphon, 61, has been remanded since 19 Jan when he was indicted by the public prosecutor and the court denied him bail.
On 21 Jan, the Appeals Court dismissed his appeal for bail, repeating the reasons previously claimed by the first court that his alleged crimes ‘seriously affected public feelings and national security’, and he might flee.
Amphon was arrested on 3 Aug 2010 for allegedly sending mobile phone messages to the Prime Minister and other important persons. He was detained at Bangkok Remand Prison for about two months before being freed on bail.
He has denied the charges, and has insisted that he does not know how to send messages through mobile phones.
He has also denied that he is a ‘hardcore’ supporter of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship as reportedly claimed by police, saying that he used to visit rallies of both yellow and red shirts and was not especially committed to one side over the other.
