Sombat Boonngam-anong, leader of the Red Sunday group, has cancelled his political talk show scheduled for 5 Dec, after receiving much pressure and a bomb threat.

Sombat had scheduled his political talk shows on 5 and 6 Dec at the red-shirt headquarters at Imperial Lad Phrao. 

Entitled ‘Won Non Kuk’, or seeking to be jailed, the show is meant to be a humorous and light-hearted political event, according to the organizer.  However, it has met with disapproval from the Army Chief, Police Chief and the CRES, who said that it was not proper to organize the show on the auspicious date of 5 Dec.

Sombat said that he was well aware what day 5 Dec was, but he did not think that this should restrict other lawful activities.  

He said that he had been threatened by a retired military officer who warned that M26 bombs might be thrown onto the back of his stage.  He felt very angry, but responded that he would continue with the show.

However, after later receiving ‘advice’ from several senior persons by phone, he finally had to give in, as he did not want the audience and his staff to be targeted and harmed.

Pol Maj Gen Wichai Sangprapai, commander of Metropolitan Police Division 1, called him on 3 Dec and told him that the CRES had assigned the police general to ask him to cancel the 5 Dec show, as it was not acceptable. Although it was not against the law, it was not proper, Sombat quoted the police general. 

Those who have bought tickets for the 5 Dec show can get refunds at Imperial Lad Phrao, or they can exchange the tickets for the 6 Dec show instead.
