Thai and Cambodian military commanders met to discuss ending a five-day border conflict in accordance with yesterday’s (28 July) ceasefire agreement.
According to Royal Thai Army’s spokesperson General Winthai Suwaree, Thai and Cambodian military commanders in charge of three regions along the border held discussion on Tuesday (29 July) to implement a ceasefire agreement reached by the leaders of both countries.
The Thailand-Cambodia General Border Committee (GBC) is slated to hold a meeting on 4 August.
The Thai 1st Army Regional commander met with Cambodia’s 5th Army Regional commander in Sa Kaeo province. They agreed to halt further military deployment while awaiting the GBC talks. The commanders have been empowered to communicate directly with each other to address any urgent situations.
The Thai 2nd Army Regional head met with Cambodia’s 4th Army Regional commander in Surin province. Both agreed to an immediate ceasefire and ordered their forces to refrain from using weapons against civilians. Military reinforcement and further deployment will be halted to avoid misunderstanding. A collective task force was also established to address ongoing issues and prevent future conflicts.
Meanwhile, the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defense Command met with the 3rd Army Regional head via an online conference. The results of the meeting were in keeping with the talks between the Thai 1st and Cambodian 5th Army Regional commanders.
The spokesperson affirmed that firing along the Thai-Cambodian border ceased ahead of the military-level talks.
According to the ceasefire talks held in Malaysia on Monday (28 July), Thailand and Cambodia reached three common understandings:
1. an immediate and unconditional ceasefire from 24:00 hours (local time) on 28 July 2025 as a vital first step towards de-escalation and the restoration of peace and security;
2. informal meetings of regional commanders (Regional Military 1 and 2 on the Thai side and Regional Military 4 and 5 of the Cambodian side) on 29 July 2025 to be followed by a meeting with Defence Attaches led by the Chair of ASEAN, pending the agreement by both sides;
3. a meeting of the GBC, hosted by Cambodia, on 4 August.
