On April 15, Matichon reported that two bodies had been found floating in the Chao Phraya River.    Initial checks suggest they were from among the red-shirted demonstrators.

The bodies were found floating near Phra Pin Klao bridge.  The dead men wore black t-shirts and black trousers. Their mouths were gagged with towels, and their hands were tied behind their backs.  Bruises caused by hard objects were found on the bodies. One of them wore a belt whose buckle read ‘Krung Thai Group’, and the other’s t-shirt read ‘RESCUE’.

According to the police, Krung Thai Group is a security service company affiliated with Krung Thai Bank, located at Lad Phrao Soi 106.  Employees of the company were called, and identified them as Natthapong Pongdee, 24, from Udon Thani, and Chaiyaporn Kantang, 30, from Phrae.

According to the employees, the two men told their colleagues on April 12 that they were going to join the protest at Government House, and they had lost contact since.  Natthapong’s relatives had filed a missing person case with police on April 14.

The police are investigating the cause of death and verifying whether they were with the red-shirted demonstrators.  Initially, the police believe they were murdered.  The Forensic Department of Sirirat Hospital will establish whether they were killed before being thrown into the river, or drowned.

Police Lt Col Pinyo Pomsathit said that after questioning Chaiyaporn’s wife, he thought the killing was politically motivated, but according to Chaiyaporn’s colleagues, he was always noisy, annoying other people when drunk.  The police will try to locate his motorcycle, and find witnesses to help identify the culprits.
