The Criminal Court has dismissed charges against 17 activists arrested during a protest on 13 October 2020, but gave one activist a suspended prison sentence for destruction of property and fined another for holding a public assembly without notifying the authorities.

Crowd control police surrounded a group of activists gathering near the Democracy Monument on 13 October 2020. 21 people were arrested. Some were reportedly injured.
On 13 October 2020, police arrested 21 of the activists gathering near the Democracy Monument in anticipation of the mass protest the next day. They faced 11 charges, including blocking a public road, violating the Emergency Decree, and obstructing an official in the exercise of their duty. 19 of the arrested protesters were held in pre-trial detention for around a week before being granted bail on 19 October 2020, while activist Jatupat Boonpattararaksa was held for 10 days before being granted bail on 23 October 2020.
Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR) said that on Wednesday (18 September), the Criminal Court dismissed charges against 17 of the activists on the grounds that the protest was peaceful, took place in an open space with most protesters wearing face masks and so not at risk of spreading Covid-19. No traffic jam was caused until crowd-control police started the crackdown. The Court also noted that the protesters were unarmed, and that disorder was caused by the police operation, not by the protesters.
However, the Court found activist Wachirawit Limdhanawong guilty of destruction of property and minor assault for throwing paint at a police officer. He was sentenced to 1 year in prison, suspended for 2 years, and a fine of 10,000 baht. Meanwhile, Jatupat was found guilty of violating the Emergency Decree, the Public Assembly Act, and the Sound Amplifier Act for not notifying the authorities before holding a public assembly and using a sound amplifier without permission. He was fined 10,200 baht in total.
Among the arrested activist was Sasaluk (last name withheld), who was 19 years old at the time. The Central Juvenile and Family Court in December 2022 sentenced him to 2 years and 5 days in prison.
A homeless man named Ben was also arrested and charged. However, Ben died in 2021 due to health issues and his case was struck from the case list.
