Sirikanya Tansakul, Deputy Leader of the Move Forward Party (MFP), rejected allegations that she is trying to discredit the government for its Digital Wallet Credit Policy, emphasising instead that she wants the government to provide accurate information to the public.

The deputy leader said she apologises if her comments were misperceived as an effort to discredit the government. She said that although the government has yet to follow its election promises, it has not violated any laws or commit any wrongdoing.

Sirikanya expressed concern that implementing the credit policy with an emergency decree for borrowing from banks, with payments made though instalments, might violate the Currency Act and other laws.

She said she understands that the government is struggling to find budget sources for the project due to insufficient regular funding.  She proposed that the Grand Committee clarify its plan and consider modifying it in light of public suggestions and criticisms.

Sirikanya added that since the budget is limited and cannot be increased in the short term to use for the digital wallet policy, the government should allocate money to other projects such as investments with a more favourable economic impact.

"If they fixate on distributing the money, they may lose the bigger goal … of making the GDP grow by 5% for four years. If they change the approach and achieve the same results, I believe the people will understand," Sirikanya said.

She also anticipates that when the Cabinet makes a final decision on the policy, the coalition parties will likely support the plan, posing no obstacle to its implementation.

She noted that MFP, the opposition leader, will have to wait and see how the policy develops.
