King Vajiralongkorn has appointed the Sretta 1 Cabinet, which features key appointments, particularly in vital economic ministries, coming from the Pheu Thai Party (PTP).

Sretta Thavisin assumes the role of Minister of Treasury, while the outspoken Deputy Leader of PTP, Poomtham Vejjayachai, has taken on the dual roles of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce.

The party has also selected Panpree Bahiddha-Nukara as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. Panpree was as Chairman of the Board and an independent director of the energy behemoth, PTT Public Company Limited.

Heavyweight politician Somsak Thepsuthin, who has previously held five key positions, including Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Industry, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Minister of Sport and Tourism, and Minister of Labor, will reprise the role of Deputy Minister.

Suriya Jungrungreangkit, a former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport during the Thaksin Era, will return as Transport Minister. Suriya left the PTP to join the Palang Pracharath Party in the 2019 General Election and went on to serve as Minister of Industry under the Prayut Chan-o-cha cabinet, before rejoining the PTP.

Chonlanan Srikaew, the former PTP Leader who recently resigned, will now lead the Ministry of Health. Meanwhile, PTP Secretary-General Prasert Chantararuangthong will serve as Minister of Digital Economy and Society.

Sermsak Pongpanich, who previously served as Deputy Minister of Education in the Yingluck Shinawatra cabinet, will head the Ministry of Culture

Bhumjaithai Party has three ministries in its portfolio. Anutin Charnvirakul will serve the dual role of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, while Supamas Isarabhakdi will be the next Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation.

Another Bhumjaithai MP, Permpoon Chidchob, a prominent figure in the police force and a member of the influential Chidchob clan, has been appointed as the Minister of Education. Permpoon is the brother of Newin Chidchob, a former Cabinet minister in the Thaksin government and a billionaire supporter of Bhumjaithai, as well as the brother of Saksayam Chidchob, who previously served as the Transport Minister in the second cabinet of General Prayut.

Palang Pracharath will assume control of two ministries. Patcharawat Wongsuwan, a former national police chief and the brother of Prawit Wongsuwon, will serve as the Minister of Natural Resources. He has also been appointed as Deputy Prime Minister.

In addition, the infamous Capt Thamanat Prompow, who previously held the position of Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives in the Prayut cabinet, now takes on the role of Agriculture Minister.

The United Thai Nation party has secured two ministerial positions. Party leader Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, who earlier relinquished his MP title, has been appointed as the Minister of Energy and has also assumed the role of Deputy Prime Minister.  Meanwhile, four-time MP Pimpatra Wichaikul has taken on the position of Minister of Industry.

Tawee Sodsong, who serves as the Secretary-General of the Prachachart Party, has taken on the role of Minister of Justice.

Sretta has announced that the new cabinet will have an audience with the King to offer allegiance on Tuesday, September 5th, at 5:00 PM.

A precise date for the new administration’s policy statement to the Parliament has yet to be declared.  The statement is reportedly nearing completion, however, and consideration is being given to either September 8th or September 11th.

Before the statement delivery, a special Cabinet meeting will convene on Wednesday, September 6th, to discuss preparations and coordination between the 11 coalition parties.
