Members of the ultra-royalist Thai Pakdee Party have submitted a letter to the Office of the Attorney General and the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD), urging them to expedite the arrest and prosecution of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in a lese majeste and Computer Crime-related case.
Tossapon Phromket, the Deputy Leader of the party, explained that their petition stems from Thaksin's 2009 interview with Time magazine. The interview reportedly contained comments that were defamatory to the monarch, queen, and crown prince, and false information was purportedly disseminated through computer systems.
The letter calls upon the prosecutor's office to press forward with legal charges against Thaksin under Article 112 of the Penal Code and provisions outlined in the Computer-Related Crime Act of 2007.
The party is also reported to have dispatched a delegation to present a petition opposing Thaksin's rumoured pursuit of a special royal pardon to the Department of Corrections.
Their grounds for opposition included Thaksin's numerous convictions for corruption while Prime Minister. The party called on the Ministry of Justice to uphold its policy of not requesting special royal pardons for corruption-related offenses to maintain the integrity of ethical governance.
They contend that granting Thaksin a pardon would jeopardise the foundations of justice by demonstrating unequal treatment under the law. They also asserted that such a pardon would place an inappropriate burden on the King.
