House Speaker Wan Muhammad Nor Matha has announced that the third parliamentary session to vote for the Prime Minister is scheduled for Tuesday, August 22. He added that the motion to reconsider the ban on candidate renomination is still ongoing.

Nor Matha stated that the proposal made by MFP MP Rangsiman Rome for parliament to review the verdict regarding the ban on re-nomination is a pending motion. The matter will be discussed during a joint meeting of the three factions on August 18.

Meanwhile, the Pheu Thai Party (PTP), which broke away from the now dissolved coalition led by the majority winner Move Forward Party (MFP), will nominate property mogul Srettha Thavisin.  Srettha is currently facing controversy as former politician Chuvit Kamolvisit has accused him of tax evasion.

PTP Deputy Leader Phumtham Wechayachai stated that he believes Srettha will secure more than 375 votes. He didn't disclose whether this number includes votes from the United Thai Nation Party and the Palang Pracharath Party. However, he mentioned that there hasn't been an official discussion with both parties yet.

If Srettha is selected with support from the Senate, it could potentially worsen public perceptions of the PTP. The outcome would seemingly confirm that a behind-the-scenes deal has been made, further fuelling public suspicions that the de-facto leader of PTP, Thaksin Shinawatra, has been working to establish a government with former coup leaders Prawit Wongsuwon and Prayut Chan-o-cha.

As a result, the upcoming vote represents a critical juncture for the PTP's public image and trust. It will determine whether the party is perceived to have strayed from democratic principles by aligning itself with parties established by those who have led the coup that has crippled the nation for almost a decade.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the MFP declared that it will not vote for Prime Minister candidates put forward by the PTP. MFP Secretary-General Chaithawat Tulathon explained that their MPs have unanimously adopted this stance due to their lack of confidence that the new Pheu Thai-led coalition will be able to serve the interests of the people.
