Thaksin Shinawatra has announced via Twitter that he will delay his planned return to Thailand on August 10 by no later than two weeks.
"I request to reschedule my return to Thailand from the 10 [of August] by no more than two weeks. The date and time will again be announced later. The doctor has called me to undergo a medical examination first," the former prime minister wrote.
This comes after his daughter and Pheu Thai PM candidate, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, had previously announced he would be returning on August 10.
On May 16, during his online program Care Talk, he reiterated his plan to return to Thailand to face legal proceedings, despite the possibility of being imprisoned, in order not to burden the Pheu Thai Party.
On May 9 before the general election, Thaksin had announced on Twitter that he would not be returning to Thailand before his birthday in July this year.
Thaksin stated that the reason for his return was his desire to be reunited with his family and grandchildren.
Some expressed doubts whether he will be returning at all since he has dangled the prospect of his return on various occasions over the years.
