The choice of Speaker of the House of Representatives, which has dominated the news cycle in the past month and sparked numerous conspiracy theories, may soon be resolved as the 8-party coalition meets to discuss the formation of the government.

Pheu Thai prime minister candidate Srettha Thavisin has reaffirmed that the Pheu Thai Party (PTP) adheres to democratic principles and that the democratic faction is willing to join hands and work together.

He said that even though he is not part of the House Speaker negotiation team led by the leader and secretary-general of the Pheu Thai party, he believes that news regarding the discussions between the Pheu Thai party and the MFP regarding the House Speaker position is just news from "sources."

He believes both parties will reach a resolution and the matter will be resolved constructively, with both sides joining hands to form a democratic government, adding that Pita Limcharoenrat "must" become the Prime Minister since his party ranked first in the election.

"The current step is to first select the Speaker of the House of Representatives and proceed to select the Prime Minister, which must have Pita Limcharoenrat, the candidate for Prime Minister from the MFP as Prime Minister because the MFP received the highest number of votes. I hope that there will be no obstacles," reads the statement from Srettha.

Meanwhile, Chaturon Chaisang, a PTP heavyweight, gave his opinions on the ongoing negotiations between the MFP and the PTP regarding the Speaker of the House position, pointing out that there is still confusion regarding the negotiations and the public should wait for more clarification from reliable sources.

However, he expressed his wish for the 8-party coalition to succeed in forming a government.

Amidst rumours that disagreement over the House Speakership position may have sabotaged the coalition, a picture circulating on social media on June 29 shows various PTP and MFP leaders in an economic team meeting, with PTP’s Paethongtarn Shinawatra and MFP’s Sirikanya Tansakun present. The caption on Sirikanya's post reads: "Discussion with Pheu Thai to plan administration. Keep on working, don't wait any longer."

In recent days, a plethora of online conspiracy theorists has perpetuated a narrative of the "untrustworthy" PTP, claiming that the Party is waiting for the opportunity to form a Pheu Thai-led government. However, Party leaders have vehemently rejected these rumours and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring Pita becomes Prime Minister.

However, some reported that the PTP and MFP will discuss the issue in another meeting scheduled for July 3.
