The Election Commission (EC) has officially endorsed the election results for the 500 Members of Parliament (MPs), comprising 400 constituency-based MPs, and 100 party-list MPs, Matichon Online reported.
The report says that the EC Secretary-General Sawaeng Boonmee held a press conference today to announce certification ahead of the deadline, even though the investigation into complaints will not be completed within the 60-day timeframe.
According to Matichon, Sawaeng stated that the EC still has the authority to investigate and examine any allegations or petitions under the Organic Act on the Election of Members of the House of Representatives B.E. 2561.
If credible evidence arises indicating electoral misconduct, Sawaeng said, the EC can petition the Constitutional Court to revoke the election results and order a new election. This process must be completed within one year from the date of the election.
