United Thai Nation, a conservative party led by Prayut Chan-o-cha, has released a new campaign video portraying a dystopian version of a Thailand governed by liberal values.

The 2-minute-31-second video plays on conservatives’ fear of liberal ideas such as freedom, equality, and the abolition of military conscription and is thought to be aimed at the campaign slogan of the Move Forward Party: ‘Choose the Move Forward Party, Thailand will not be the same.’

Do you really want Thailand not to be the same? asks the title of the clip. "A Thailand that is no longer the same" is the central motif of the Move Forward Party's campaign.

In the clip, the supposedly negative sides of freedom, rights and democracy are shown. It goes as far as to imply that these values are undesirable. It contains vignettes of a mother’s distress after learning that her teenage daughter takes pride in freedom over her body and makes a living from pornography; an anarchic Thailand where government buildings are covered with graffiti and paint; a family dinner disrupted by a youth protesting he hasn't voted for the food made by his mother; news of the Thai border being invaded by foreign forces and unable to protect itself because military conscription has been cancelled; and the kingdom without religion.

The description of the clip says “Many scenes are incidents that have already taken place; many are scenes that carry a high risk of becoming reality. The decision of the people on May 14th will determine whether Thailand will continue to move forward steadily and with unity, as it has for the past eight years, or be dragged back into a black hole of conflict and subversion. The opposition side are determined to uproot the culture, traditions, and noble values of society to become a Thailand that is no longer the same”.

This desperate attempt to play on the fears of Thai conservatives was met with criticism from liberals who argue that the video is propaganda that tries to summon up the fears of conservatives by showing a hypothetical Thailand under the reign of liberal values, perpetuating a myth of what the country would look like were it to become dominated by these values.

The comments section on the party's Facebook page is filled with people supporting the sentiments shown in the clip. Some point out that the government has brought about progress and that change is not needed.

However, the clip is fiercely criticised and mocked in comments on the YouTube version of the video.
