In pursuance to the invocation of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Order no. 7/2557 to ban political gathering and Section 44 of the 2014 Interim Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand which issue the Order of Head of NCPO no. 3/2015 regarding the maintenance of public order and national security as well as the orders to authorize military court to have jurisdiction over cases related to political assembly, the police and military officials have lately exercised their draconian power to hold a person in custody.

The reason we have chosen to come to Loei, is because we know that we will definitely be arrested by the authorities. Loei is the community where the 7 of us first learnt about the impact of Loei gold- mining on the people. When the 7 of us had to decide where to be arrested, we decided we want to be arrested here in Loei. Here, in Loei, we started to learn about the community’s struggle and this community’s struggle has inspired the 7 of us to be a part of the movement against social injustice. It has also inspired us to work against inequality in society.

JAKARTA, 27 May 2015 – The Myanmar government’s passage of a controversial new “population control” law is yet another in a long line of restrictive and illegal measures as part of a policy of persecution and ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya population, ASEAN lawmakers said today.
Rooted in Myanmar’s rising Buddhist-nationalist extremism, the Population Control Act will likely be used to enforce targeted reproductive restrictions against vulnerable minorities.

“Canada is concerned that after two years, the Laotian government has been unable to provide further information on Mr. Sombath’s whereabouts. We call upon Laos to respect its international commitments, and to fully and transparently investigate and report on Mr. Sombath’s disappearance.

Thailand’s credibility as a potential member of the United Nations Human Rights Council depends on the government’s addressing urgent human rights concerns at home, Human Rights Watch said in a letter to Prime Minister Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha, on October 18, 2014.
Thailand is a candidate, along with Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, and Qatar, for the four vacant Human Rights Council seats allocated for the Asia-Pacific region.
