Six people who participated in the demonstration in front of the Cambodian Embassy last Monday (8 June) to call for the authorities to address the disappearance of activist in exile Wanchalearm Satsaksit have been summoned by the police on Emergency Decree charges, said Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR).

The disappearance of Thai activist in exile Wanchalearm Satsaksit has sparked a wave of NGOs, activists, and members of the public both online and offline who are calling for justice. Netizens are using the #savewanchalearm (#saveวันเฉลิม) to show their support, while at least three demonstrations have been staged in his name since Friday.

A civil society group in Isan, Thailand’s northeast, say that the military government should not only blame politicians on water mismanagement, but civil servants and other public agencies as well. On Sunday, 31 January 2016, Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd, spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office under Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, the junta leader and PM, revealed a 12 years water management plan of the government.

Military and police officers in northeastern Thailand recorded and monitored a seminar on environmental issues facing the Mekong River Basin and asked to have private talks with the event organisers. About 10 military and police officers in uniform and plainclothes on Thursday afternoon came to the Thai-Laos Riverside Hotel in the Isan province of Nong Khai to record and monitor a public forum about Thai government projects in the Mekong River Basin.

The military forced a public seminar on martial law in northern Thailand to be cancelled due to its sensitive political content.   Military officers from the 3rd Army in the northern province of Chiang Mai on Wednesday contacted the organizers of a public seminar entitled “Directions of Civil Society Organisations under the National Council of Peace and Order (NCPO)” to cancel the seminar. The military claimed that they are concerned because the seminar was related to the political situation under the junta’s NCPO as the seminar title suggested.

Villagers from three provinces in the lower north of Thailand have urged the Thai authorities and a mining company to provide compensation and remedial measures after the authorities found heavy metals in the villagers’ blood.
