The announcement that the remains of Porlajee “Billy” Rakchongcharoen, a Karen rights activist, have been located, bringing a sad end to years of uncertainty for his family. This development should lead to a renewed focus on identifying the perpetrator(s) of his apparent enforced disappearance and bringing them to justice, said the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) and Amnesty International today (4 September).

Thailand must end immediately the prosecution of civilians in military tribunals and transfer all remaining cases to the civilian courts, said the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) today.
On 18 November 2014, the Bangkok Military Tribunal convicted a political broadcaster, Khathawut B., of lese majeste under article 112 of the Thai Criminal Code and Article 14 of the Computer Crimes Act, and sentenced him to five years in jail following a plea of guilty.

On 7 September, the Pattani Provincial Court rejected an appeal by Rohima Huseng, who alleged that security officers in Pattani tortured her brother, Hasan Huseng, during interrogation at a detention centre in a military camp in southern Pattani Province.

On 11 March 2011, one day before the seventh anniversary of the enforced disappearance and presumed murder of human rights lawyer Somchai Neelapaijit, the Court of Appeal issued a judgment (i) overturning the conviction of Pol. Maj. Ngern Thongsuk due to insufficient evidence and (ii) denying the right of Angkhana Neelapaijit and her daughters to appeal the case to the Supreme Court as co-plaintiffs.
