12 years and 5 months after the crime, a military court in Pattani Province has sentenced 8 soldiers for beating to death Wichian Puaksom, a 26-year-old private.

The trial for the murder of indigenous rights activist Porlajee “Billy” Rakchongcharoen has concluded, said the Cross-Cultural Foundation (CrCF). The Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases will deliver a verdict on 28 September.

<p>26 Human rights organizations issued a statement on Monday (5 September) calling for independence and professionalism in the judicial process, after former Kaeng Krachan National Park Chaiwat Limlikhitaksorn and three other park officials were indicted for the abduction and murder of community rights activist and Bang Kloi indigenous community leader Porlajee &quot;Billy&quot; Rakchongcharoen.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the army to pay multi-million baht compensation to the family of a soldier who drowned during a combat training course 7 years ago, affirming a previous ruling that found the drill instructors guilty of gross negligence.</p>

<p>On 28 June, the Southern Bangkok Civil Court ordered the Royal Thai Police to pay compensation to Ritthirong Cheunchit, a man who was beaten and suffocated with plastic bags by policemen in 2009 to make him confess to a crime he did not commit.</p>

<p>It has been 2 months since Auttasit Nussa and Weeraphab Wongsaman filed a complaint against police at the Din Daeng Police Station for beating them while in custody. &nbsp;The incident allegedly occurred on 29 October 2021. &nbsp;Thus far, there has been little progress in the investigation, however.</p>

<p>The Cross Cultural Foundation (CrCF), a local human rights organisation, reports that a draft bill criminalising torture and enforced disappearance is nearing completion.&nbsp; Last September, a preliminary draft passed a first reading in parliament.&nbsp; According to CrCF, which has been involved in revising the draft for a 2nd reading, it will be finalised by 22 December.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On 29 November 2021, the Prachinburi Provincial Court affirmed a Court of Appeals decision to drop a lawsuit filed by a police officer against Ritthirong Cheunchit, a man detained and beaten by the police. The suit alleged that Ritthirong previously gave false testimony in court.</p>
