In an act of civil disobedience, student activist and conscientious objector Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal went to a military conscription centre in Samut Prakan’s Bang Pu District and announced that he will not participate in the conscription process.

<p>Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal may sit as a member of Amnesty International Thailand&#39;s Board of Directors, three years after his term expired, as the justifications given by the authorities to prevent him from doing so were invalid, the Administrative Court has ruled.</p>

<p>Samyan Press, a publishing house run by Chulalongkorn University students, said last week that its staff&nbsp;was&nbsp;approached by a Chinese businessman who tried to bribe them into closing their business in order to improve the businessman&rsquo;s relations with the Chinese authorities.</p>

<p>On 18 February, Chulalongkorn University (CU) vice rector Chaiyaporn Puprasert issued a letter announcing disciplinary action against Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal and Pitchakorn Roeksomphong, the president and first vice president of the CU student government. &nbsp;The action included removing Netiwit office.</p>

<p>The Student Government of Chulalongkorn University (SGCU) has proposed that 6 October of every year be designated the International Day for the Protection of Students&rsquo; Freedom of Expression.</p>

<p>On Christmas day, the Criminal Court dismissed all charges against 9 activists who called for an election in front of the MBK department store in January 2018.</p>

<p>The Administrative Court has ruled that Chulalongkorn University must reduce the penalty imposed on Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal and his 7 colleagues and revoked the order removing him as President of the Student Council. This came too late to change anything as his one-year term ended last year.</p>

<div>The former president of the Student Council of Chulalongkorn University has petitioned the Administrative Court to invalidate the university’s order that punished him for protesting during a university initiation ceremony.&nbsp;</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>On 9 February 2018, Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal and his lawyer submitted a petition to the Central Administrative Court. </div>

The courts released them without bail.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>On 8 February 2018, 34 out of the 39 pro-election protesters known as the MBK 39 reported to Pathumwan Police Station to hear the charges against them. The junta accused the group of joining a public assembly on 27 January within 150 meters of a royal site, in violation of Article 7 of the 2015 Public Assembly Act. </div></div>
