Prachatai - 6 July 2007 The reporter of Prachatai reported that at approximately 7.20 pm at the bus terminal in Muang District, Chiang Rai Province - Mr. Sombat Boon-ngamanong the core leader of the Pola Muang Wiwat Group, one of the anti-coup groups, which has joined the Democratic Alliance against Dictatorship (DAAD) was arrested by the soldiers. Mr. Sombat was charged by about 4-5 military forces while after 20 minutes of his speech asking the Council for National Security (CNS) to resign. This is following the strategies of the "spread out campaign" by the DAAD to maximize the anti-coup protests around the country. !

At the present time no charge is made against him yet. Sombat is in the process of being detained at Meng Rai Maharaj Camp. Associates of Sombat are being denied entry to the camp. Chiang Rai is currently under rule of the martial law.

The coordinator of the DAAD in Chiang Rai said that he has contacted with the central DAAD in Bangkok. Currently, they are in the process of negotiating with the relevant officials.

Prachatai will be reporting for more developments.
