A provincial court in southern Thailand has dismissed charges of human trafficking filed by Cambodian workers against a Thai fishing boat captain and a fish market owner.
On 22 February 2017, the Provincial Court of Ranong read the verdict in a case filed by Ranong public prosecutors against Banjob Kaenkaew, a fishing boat captain, and Somchai Jettanapornsamran, owner of a fish market based in Samut Sakhon.

On 29 December 2016, Mr. Sai Kein, a migrant worker from Myanmar, has authorized a representative to bring the case to the Labour Court of Samut Sakhon against the Social Security Office in Nakhon Pathom as defendant no. 1 and the Workmen’s Compensation Fund Committee, defendant no. 2. The Thai Supreme Court has dismissed a criminal defamation charge against a well-known British labour rights advocate, who was sued by a Thai canned fruit company for voicing labour abuse.
On 4 November 2016, the Supreme Court dismissed a criminal defamation case against Andy Hall, BBC Thai reported.

A Thai court has handed a three year suspended jail term to Andy Hall, a well-known British migrant labour rights defender, for defaming a canned fruit company.
On 20 September 2016, Bangkok’s Southern Criminal Court read a verdict on the case between Natural Fruit Co. Ltd., a Thai canned fruit company based in southern Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, and Andy Hall, a well-known human rights defender who advocates for migrant worker rights.

The Thai criminal court has dismissed criminal defamation charges against Andy Hall, a British human rights defender and migration researcher. This is one of the four libel cases filed by a processed fruit company after Hall publicised poor human rights records and abusive labour conditions in the company’s factories.
Phra Khanong Provincial Court, Bangkok, on Wednesday morning dismissed the first criminal libel case against Andy Hall, a freelance human rights and migration researcher, due incorrect investigation procedures.

About 4,000 illegal migrant children are arbitrarily arrested in Thailand and detained separately from their parents in inhumane conditions without adequate food, healthcare, or space, according to the latest report by Human Rights Watch (HRW).
Moreover, migrant children aged nine to 12 are kept in the same cells in detention centres as adult prisoners on various charges. This makes them directly and indirectly vulnerable to violence committed by the adult prisoners.

As of 19th June 2014, Human Rights Watch has reported several hundred thousand migrant workers from Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos fleeing Thailand. An estimated 220,000 Cambodian workers have returned to the safety of their own country in fear of the Junta’s action against illegal migrant workers.

An estimated 2 million migrants from Myanmar working across Thailand remain anxious to an irrational deadline imposed on permission to work here. The two countries agreed in 2003 that these workers could remain in Thailand only for 4 years before returning home for at least 3 years prior to any possible return.
This limit on migrant’s stay in Thailand was imposed on ‘legal’ workers who, since 2009, completed a Nationality Verification regularisation process (NV).
