<p>A group of students held a &ldquo;student pride parade&rdquo; on 29 July by marching to the Ministry of Education to call for equal rights and protection for LGBT students</p>

<p>LGBT activists held a demonstration on Saturday (25 July) at the Democracy Monument in the name of gender equality, LGBT rights, and democracy, as well as calling the government out for their failure in handling the Covid-19 pandemic and demanding the dissolution of parliament.</p>

<p>Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) vehemently condemns the illegal arrest of at least 20 pride protestors from Bahaghari (a national LGBTQI+ organisation), Children&rsquo;s Rehabilitation Center, GABRIELA and other LGBTQI+ allies on 26 June 2020 while commemorating the international pride month in Mendiola, Manila, Philippines.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Thammasat University issued an announcement on Tuesday (9 June), signed by University President Kesinee Vitoonchart, allowing students to dress according to their gender identity as well as prohibiting all staff and faculty members from discriminating against LGBT students.</p>

<p>A new <a href="https://www.th.undp.org/content/thailand/en/home/library/gender_equality/stories-of-stigma.html">study</a> by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Thailand delves into the various forms of stigma and discrimination experienced by transgender women, often resulting in violence and abuse, and barriers to accessing employment, education, health care and other social services.</p>

<p>On 31 December 2019, the Constitutional Court of Thailand decided not to accept a <a href="https://prachatai.com/english/node/8284">petition</a> made by two LGBT couples and the Foundation for SOGI Rights and Justice (For-SOGI) on 22 November 2019, requesting the Court to rule whether the current Thai marriage law violates the 2017 Constitution.</p>

<p>On Monday (2 December), the&nbsp;United Nations Development Programme&nbsp;(UNDP) launched a new study on attitudes towards LGBT people in Thailand, which found that while there is significant support for inclusive laws and policies, experiences of stigma, discrimination, violence, and exclusion remain persistent.</p>

<p>Chulalongkorn University has finally amended its uniform regulations to allow students to dress according to their gender identity, after a group of students earlier this year filed a request for this and a complaint against a Faculty of Education lecturer.</p>

<p>On 22 August, parliament voted not to support a proposal to set up a separate Standing Committee on LGBT rights. Instead, LGBT rights will be subsumed under the Standing Committee on children, young people, women, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and ethnic groups.</p>

<p>Two students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Payap University, have filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRC) after the Faculty denied them the right to dress according to their gender identity.</p>
